If you plan to provide additional health insurance to increase your Medicare plan, it is important to be familiar with Medigap. Remember that Medigap is structured in such a way that all plans with the same name offer the same coverage, regardless of the company that offers it. Therefore, your challenge is to be familiar with what each of the benefits of coverage means, so you know exactly what to expect from all the available options to determine what is best for you.

Here are the most common benefits of Medigap coverage and what each one does for your medical needs.

· Medicare Part A Insurance - Available in all Medigap plans from A to N. Medicare insurance for Part A insurance means that you must pay your share of the cost of the service you used. This is applicable after payment of any deductible. Suppose you have a Part A service and your co-insurance states that you pay for 20% of the fee for this service; Simply put, this means that your Medigap coverage takes care of the remaining 80% of the bill.

· Medicare Part B insurance is available in all Medigap plans from A to N, but with special restrictions specific to Plans K and L. This is very similar to co-insurance for Part A, except that they apply only to services that belong to the Medicare Part B classification. If you used a medical service that falls under Part B, you pay the sum of co-insurance as indicated in your plan, while Medigap covers the rest of the bill.

· Coverage with blood. This coverage is available in all Medigap plans from A to N, but with special restrictions specific to plans K and L. The entire coverage of Medigap covers blood transfusions of up to 3 pints. This means that if a patient with a Medigap requires a blood transfusion, Medigap will pay for the first 3 pints of blood and only if this is not enough for the patient to assume the cost of excess blood.

· Part A Coexistence for hospice care — available in all Medigap plans from A to N. This works the same way as the proportion of Part A and Part B, except that it is specific to hotel services, as provided by Medicare and Medigap. If you are eligible for hospice care, your insurer pays the remaining amount on the invoice after you have paid your share of the cost.

· Qualified health insurance for nursing care — available only in Plans C to N and works in the same way as other co-insurance terms.

· Medicare Part A Deductible - available only on plans B to N. The deductible amount is the amount you pay before your insurance agent pays for your medical benefits.

· Medicare Part B Deductible - available only in Plans C and F.

· Medicare Part B Excess Charges — Medigap coverage is available only in Plans F and G.
