You can find Abreva Cold Sore Treatment without a prescription at any pharmacy in any store. Abreva is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and says it will shorten the healing time for a cold sore or fever. The question is, does it work? We will see in a minute.
The Abreva product comes in a securely tiny 2 g tube. You can find it at retail for about $ 15 in all stores or online.
Reading the directions, it says that you should put the medicine right in the area where you feel a cold sore coming. You must do this 5 times during the day. Abreva says that the key is to start treatment before the cold sore actually breaks out.
As a person who has cold sores a couple of times over the course of a year, I know how difficult it is for them to cope, especially after a break. So, I am always looking for a cure for a cold that works. With that said, here is my review of the Abrevian.
1. I'm having problems opening the package. It is impossible to open it without scissors. Then, when you get to it, the tube is very tiny, leaving you wondering if there is anything in it.
2. I found that Abreva took almost a week to remove my pain, and not the few days that the product claims. I must say, cold sore prescription is much faster.
3. Abreva Cold Sore Treatment did not eliminate my cold sore quickly. It did work, but not as well as other cold medicines I used in the past, and not as fast as a prescription.
4. I was out of Abreva only after 10 days of use. I used it exactly as indicated in the instructions, but the tube did not last long. I was a little disappointed, to say the least.
I talked with others who were lucky with Abreva, but I am not in this group. I can’t give Abreve a high rating compared to other cold sore medications.
