In early 2007, I published the book “Breast Cancer” - “Reason - Prevention - Treatment” (ISBN-10: 0955422108), and in it I described the amazing discovery of treatment for cancer that now exists. The relationship between cancer and iron
Ask any doctor or medical practitioner and you will be told that iron is a key ingredient for cell division and
cancer cells require much more iron to replicate than normal cells. Cancer cells divide at a very high rate. Thus, in order to divide at this high level, cancer cells must accumulate high concentrations of iron. In fact, the surface of cancer cells has much more receptors that attract iron than on the surface of a normal healthy cell. Here, if you could limit the amount of iron to a cancer cell, it actually slows the growth of cancer, and of course the opposite is true. Transferrin saturation is an indicator of iron overload - those who consume high levels of dietary iron have an increased risk of cancer and cancer mortality. Now you know why? However, iron cannot be limited because it plays such an important role in human health.
Iron is bound and transported in the body through transferrin and stored in ferritin molecules. 75% of the absorbed iron is associated with proteins, such as blood hemoglobin, which are involved in the transport of oxygen. When iron is absorbed, there is no physiological mechanism for excretion of excess iron from the body, except for blood loss, i.e. pregnancy, menstruation, or other bleeding.
Limiting iron makes a person anemic and unhealthy, while causing too much cancer
quickly, so the body needs to maintain a balance between them. So we have a lifestyle problem. Tumor cells and bacteria need iron to grow, and our bodies try to starve from iron, diverting iron from blood to storage sites deep in tissues. It is well known biochemically that if you add iron to tumor cells in cultures, they grow much faster, and breast cancer cells develop on the gland.
In 1988, many studies began to demonstrate that iron really represents the risk of common cancers, such as
lungs, colon, bladder, esophagus and at levels that were astonishingly less than doctors had previously considered dangerous. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine (October 1988) by Dr. Richard Stevens showed that as the levels of iron saturation increase, the incidence of cancer increases. Until that time, a satiety level of 65% was considered safe, but this study showed that at a 37% saturation level, the cancer level began to skyrocket and doctors began to question levels that they had previously considered safe. In January 1994, in the International Journal of Cancer, Dr. Stevens reported that the incidence of cancer increased by only 31%.
It is now clear that cancer cells grow faster and faster depending on how much iron has been absorbed by the body and transferred to the cell sites. The transport medium is transferrin. It is a plasma protein that transports iron through the blood to various parts of the body. Gastro-hungry cancer cells, as a rule, have significantly more transferrin receptors on their surface than normal cells, which allows them to absorb more iron-carrying proteins in their structure. When the iron-loaded transferrin protein encounters the transferrin receptor on the cell surface, it binds to it and, therefore, is transferred to the cell in the vesicle, in the form of a bag. The cell will acidify the vesicle, causing transferrin to release iron ions. The receiver is then transported through the endocytic cycle back to the cell surface, ready for another round of iron absorption.
Although it is now known that iron plays a key role in the development of cancer, and scientists have been trying for years to find ways to use this information to fight cancer cells and destroy them through the use of this mechanism. nevertheless it was a hit and an omission. Some progress was made, some methods were tested, but they were very difficult to implement and costly. So it was fifty years or more.
