3 ways childhood Obesity can affect learning -2

A study at South Carolina Medical University found a link between adolescence in adolescence and reduced learning. And since adolescents are still under development, weight loss can at least stop the trend and even possibly change it to some extent.

One decline in learning, as indicated by IQ estimates, is due to a condition known as adolescent sleep apnea. Just like adults, obese children with this condition actually stop breathing during sleep. Although each episode can last up to 10 seconds, it can occur hundreds of times every night in a child with this condition.

Studies have shown that a decrease in learning is associated with two results: cessation of breathing: lack of oxygen in the brain and lack of quality sleep. When a child does not breathe, oxygen does not enter the lungs, enters the bloodstream and spreads to the brain. With a lack of oxygen over time, damage to existing brain tissue can occur, as well as further brain development. The cause of sleep apnea can be an excess of fat in the throat or enlarged tonsils that cut off the airways.

When a child wakes up hundreds of times each night, they do not get quality sleep, even if they can get the right amount of hours of sleep. This affects their academic performance even more, because the next day they go to school and cannot concentrate on their studies.

And then there is the emotional side of learning. Social dispute also affects learning in obese adolescents. Since obese children "do not fit", children with normal weight tend to tease, ridicule, or even bully them. This constant mockery causes immeasurable emotional problems, due to which the reduction in learning is only one. With low self-esteem and self-worth, constantly pursuing them, focusing on schooling is the furthest thing on their mind. Many can no longer ostracize their peers and ultimately start their lives.

The researchers found that the decline in learning can begin as early as kindergarten and is apparently more common in girls than in boys. They also found that obese adolescents are less likely to attend any kind of post-secondary education. And it all starts with the fact that you are obese.

If you have a teen obesity, help them go back to learning again, looking for an approved diet and exercise program from your child. Be a part of stopping emotional stress and poor grades caused by your child’s obesity. Return them to actively learn again.
