It is time for ABIM Internal Medicines , and "High Income" is the key. You do not want to waste your time, and you want to be as efficient as possible. Well, I recently sang a lecture titled "Doctor Resia 5 Pearls for Passing Boards." This is a general post and can be used for any standardized test in the last few weeks of preparation.
Pearl # 1: Always read the question first, review the answers, then go back and read the question.
- You spend your time reading the passage and first looked at the lab.
- What are you focusing on?
- How many times do you go back and forth between passing and answers?
- This process is wasting precious time.
- Instead, first read the question and answers, and then go back and read the passage.
- Some questions can even be answered without reading the passage.
Pearl number 2: know the breakdown of the dough
- In particular, for the ABIM board “THE BIG 5” exam:
- General internal medicine
- Cardiovascular diseases
- gastroenterology
- Infection
- Pulmonary disease and critical care
- Only these 5 sections compromise approximately 50-60% of the exam.
- If the time is short, focus on these five sections.
- Ideally, you have left enough time for yourself to go through all the sections, but if the time is short, reading things, such as dermatology, is small
Pearl # 3: Know how many of the 4 medical solutions
- If you can answer 4 questions about each disease process, you will be ready for more than 80% of the test questions:
- What is the BEST initial test?
- What is the MOST ACCORTATE test?
- What is the BEST initial therapy / treatment?
- What is the NEXT BEST STEP in management?
- These four questions are known as the “Fisher Method”,
Pearl number 4: select one book and a question of the bank and stick to it
- There are so many options and all is well.
- Personally, I think Med Study reads the easiest and highest yield followed by MKSAP
- Ultimately select one resource and stick to it. Buying five different resources is unrealistic to complete, and you won’t get all the information.
- Also select one bank of questions and stick to it.
- Whether Knowmedge, MKSAP, MedStudy or Kaplan, you can get through if you study the material
- Personally, I used the Knowmedge and MKSAP question banks and felt that they were both very comparable to the ABIM Board exam.
Pearl # 5: focus on most communities
- I would know that the first 3 states of each area are cold.
- those. 3 infectious killers in the world are HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria
- those. 3 out of 5 top killers in the world are cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases and chronic lung diseases (no wonder cardiovascular, pulmonary / critical care and infectious diseases make up 3 of the BIG 5)
In addition to these 5 High Yield Pearls, also consider another free resource, such as Twitter (My personal recommendations for daily tips and pearls include: @awesomereview , @immemorandum , @uthscsapearls and @srrezaie ). Let me wish you all good luck in your studies, ABIM Internal Medicine exam and future endeavors.
