Adolescent Drug Abuse: High-risk Cough Syrup -2

Adolescent addiction and adolescent alcoholism ruin the life of a teenager and tear up the family. In adolescence, risk behavior and impulsivity are characteristic. An example of a teenager who is experimenting with another way to get high is a strong cough syrup in excess quantities. This method of getting high is called a "robot receiver."

The active ingredient in cough syrup is called dextromethorphan, also known as tucine. Dextromethorphan acts as a cough suppressant in recommended doses. It is sold through the counter and therefore is legal and affordable. Just as teenage drinking is typical for adolescents (for drinking large amounts of alcohol in a short amount of time), taking 25–50 times the recommended dose of cough syrup (drink or drink) is a form of teenage drug abuse.

As a psychiatrist specializing in drug addiction, I discovered that parents do not have education about teenage alcoholism and teenage drug abuse in today's world. The world is a different place compared to how we grow up. The ease of exchanging information electronically makes it easy to start a trend. The denial of parents against their teenagers experimenting with drugs and alcohol is strong.

RT is a 16 year old whom I treat teenage alcoholism and abuse of cough. He said that he often drank cough syrup because he enjoyed the hallucination and felt “out” of his own body. He told me that I felt "really high" on cough syrup. However, once he drank so much cough syrup that he had a seizure and got into the emergency room. He could easily die. At this point, his parents faced the reality that their son had a serious problem with drugs and alcohol. He was informed about the rehabilitation facility.

Here are seven things parents need to know about robotics; cough syrup:

1. 1 out of 10 teenagers tried out robotics.

2. Teenagers are very naive and believe that mediation is safe if it is outside the counter. They do not understand that taking anything above the recommended doses can cause serious damage to your health.

3. Exfoliating cough syrup causes hallucinations, outside the body and perceptual distortion. It is considered to be a cheap form of ecstasy or LSD and is similar to the high ketamine caused by animal tranquilizers.

4. High cough syrup is called robotics. Other terms for cough syrup or the active ingredient, dextromethorphan, are DHM, pins, syrup, tucine, triple C, special K.

5. The dangerous effects of robot-stumbling include slow breathing, cardiac arrhythmias, bleeding in the brain, convulsions, loss of feeling in one of the fingers and toes, coma and death.

6. Fatal overdose occurs when mixed with mediation by alcohol, sleep, or against anxiety, as well as painkillers. Nickel and other cold / cough medicines can be very dangerous when taken in high doses.

7. Tusin is addictive if it lasts a long time.

Parents should wake up in the world of adolescent drug abuse. Adolescents are at risk, susceptible to peer pressure, trying to push it and trying to cope with confused feelings and often difficult family situations (divorce, alcohol parent). Teens tend to self-treat feelings of depression and anxiety with drugs and alcohol. In adolescents at greatest risk of adolescent drug abuse and adolescent alcoholism, adolescents with low self-esteem, those who complain that they are single, and those who have an dependent parent.

Part of our responsibility as parents is to educate our teens on the dangers of drugs and alcohol, including cough syrup and prescription pills, such as painkillers. It is important to explain that "over-the-counter" medicine is not "safe." We must be careful what medicines are available at home and lock them up, as if we are locking the liquor cabinet.
