The main interest of the Institute is to develop models of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all fields in order to demonstrate a high level of medical education for all medical colleges and allied institutions in India. Other important tasks of the Institute are to unite educational institutions of the highest order in one place to train personnel in all important branches of healthcare and to ensure self-sufficiency in postgraduate medical education. The educational principles and practices adopted here are those that best meet the needs of the country. Adapting education to solve public health problems is a major concern. To this end, the Institute is trying to initiate a model educational program, which is provided for in the development block of the Ballabgarh community in cooperation with the government of Haryana. The Institute was also able to initiate a model educational program in community medicine in the field of urban field practice in Malvia Nagar, New Delhi. Special attention is paid to the active learning process and the cultivation of scientific skills and scientific methods.

The first batch of undergraduate students was admitted to the Institute in 1956, and since then the Institute annually accepts 50 students for the MBBS course. The number of students in this course remains relatively small in order to ensure a sufficient proportion of students. The student curriculum is constantly being discussed at the faculty and staff council levels, and the required changes in the curriculum are associated with developing a model that is most suitable for Indian needs and conditions.

Undergraduate students receive a sufficient impetus for higher educational institutions, since the institute provides opportunities for obtaining a postgraduate degree in almost all branches of medical sciences. Currently, the Institute awards postgraduate studies to approximately 45 specialists.
