What are benzodiazepines?

This drug is often used for short-term relief of severe, disabling anxiety or insomnia. Benzodiazepines are among the most frequently added substances because of how they are usually prescribed. Unlike street drugs such as heroin or cocaine, this drug can be found in the medical offices of millions of ordinary Americans. Benzodiazepines are a class of several prescription drugs commonly called tranquilizers, which are depressants of the central nervous system.

Side effects
Beware of side effects. The effect of the drug occurs at an early stage of treatment and disappears as the treatment continues. A drug can impair your ability to learn and memorize new information, as well as interfere with certain physical and mental tasks. The study of memory and performance will return to normal, in most cases, after the effect of wear. The most frequent side effects in clinical trials were sedation, dizziness, weakness, and instability. Less common side effects include disorientation, depression, nausea, changes in appetite, headache, sleep disturbances, agitation, and skin reactions.
People who need to be especially careful
People who need to be especially careful about benzodiazepines include the elderly, pregnant women, and people suffering from substance abuse. For older people, sedative levels of tranquilizers can increase the chance of falls and injuries.
