As is usually the case, it's a big nuisance when you get it. Yes, I'm talking about a cold. Cold is usually caused by a virus, and therefore antibiotics do not quite work and provide relief. However, some of the infections can become bacterial, and it was then that antibiotics came in handy. Unfortunately, doctors do not just fight and destroy bad bacteria, but also kill good ones. It is important to have probiotics after a course of antibiotics, so good bacteria can replenish. Since it takes about a week of struggle before you can get closer to medications, it is very important to get some relief. This is all the more important for babies and toddlers, as they cannot blow their noses and pull out phlegm. I have listed below some of the home remedies that are commonly used in the place where I come from and in my family.
1. Kumkum is made with turmeric and is commonly used by Hindus, as it has religious significance. It has excellent decongestant properties. Get quality kumkum and add a few drops of water to a teaspoon of kumkum. Add two pinch saffron strands and heat them. Allow it to cool and, as soon as it is warm enough to touch, apply to the forehead and nose of the baby / child.
2. Dry ginger powder has a similar application. Make a teaspoon paste of ginger powder and a few drops of water. Heat it and cool it until it is warm enough to touch. Apply to the forehead, nose and behind the ears. It is more suitable for older children and adults.
3. If you do not have access to kumkum, try the same with turmeric powder.
4. Turmeric milk is great for adults and children. Heat some milk and add turmeric powder. Drink this milk, especially before bedtime.
5. Fill the garlic milk. No matter how it sounds, it is quite effective and can be given to babies and toddlers, as well as adults. If you are giving babies, make sure that your child is not allergic to milk or garlic. Crush the two cloves of garlic and add a few tablespoons of milk. Let it boil well. Once it is cool enough to consume, drink milk.
6. One of the home remedies that I found quite effective is a mixture of betel leaves, ayvayn-seeds (called omam in Tamil) and garlic. Take a pair of betel leaves, crush a couple of garlic cloves and add a few pinch crushed ajweine seeds. Add a few tablespoons of water and boil well. Give the child only liquid. Betel is called "sail" in Tamil and a partial form called "kamara vetrilai" is even better for this treatment.
7. Application Vaporub. They told me, and also read, that doctors do not believe that steamers are useful at all. However, as a parent, you will do anything to help your baby sleep for at least a few hours, and cleaning their nose is important for this. I found that my child is not happy to use the steamer. I use the sail on the chest and the back when I give my child a bath and spread warm water on these areas. This frees up vapures and cleans the nose.
8. Keep the room wet. While commercial moisturizers are available, we noticed that when you are suffering from a cold, a special amount of moisture helps provide some relief and sleep. We store the kitchen steamer and continue to fill it. Humidity reduces congestion. Keeping the room at a slightly elevated temperature helps retain moisture. Always ensure that the child does not overheat.
9. Although I have never tried, I heard that heating a small amount of coconut oil and adding camphor to it and putting it on the chest helps ease the accumulation
10. Applying eucalyptus oil, especially in the big toes, is said to stimulate the sinuses and heal the accumulation. The challenge is for the child or child to offer their foot for this foot massage!
11. Adults have several doses of ginger tea. You can either add half a teaspoon of dry ginger powder to a glass of hot water, or crush some pieces of ginger, add it to the water and boil well until the water starts to change.
12. Inhalation of fumes from turmeric also helps to reduce congestion, especially in adults. I take a piece of dried turmeric and burn one end. Smoke provides great relief.
13. Have what we call Rasam & # 39; or soup. This is essentially the essence of several things. Add a teaspoon each - crushed cumin seeds, chopped coriander seeds and a little black pepper powder in water and boil well. Add some mashed or tamarind paste, a little salt and a drink like soup. If you do not have or like tamarind, keep the liquid as a decoction.
Keep in mind that although adults can blow their noses or spit phlegm, children and babies cannot do this. As a rule, they either tear sputum, or pass it into motion, and since they have few loose stools. Having said that, it is always worth checking with your doctor if you are concerned.
