Education, training and responsibilities of emergency care specialists -2

Emergency medical professionals in Pennsylvania are trained in a variety of emergency situations. Someone suffered a heart attack or was injured in an accident, these are some of the first people who arrive at the scene. They have many different duties and responsibilities, and the course of action they can take will depend on several different factors. This may include the condition of the person being treated and the level of certification to name a few.

Amount of practice

The amount of practice for EMT is based on his or her education and training. An example of this is the paramedic and what is commonly called the first defendant. Although both classes of personnel are trained in basic life support measures and carry out a critical assessment, there are some limitations on what each group can or cannot do. Laws in Pennsylvania provide for this requirement to ensure that a person does not perform any intervention that they do not have the proper skills to perform safely. Regardless of the specific title, the person must also be certified.

Types of assistance that can be provided

Technology can provide multiple services. This may include, but is not limited to, the introduction of oxygen, CPR, IV therapy, and airway management. Some may be allowed to sew parts of the body, use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and give certain medications. The goal of those involved in this profession is not only to save lives, but also to stabilize a person until treatment is accepted by qualified and licensed medical personnel.

Training and education

Those seeking a career in this field must complete a certain form of approved training. An educational consultant acquires practical skills in a laboratory or other suitable setting, as well as some kind of lecture or book work. For example, course components may contain education in areas such as cardiology, pharmacology, and respiratory management. Upon successful completion of the approved curriculum, the graduate is eligible for certification.

Job prospects

Emergency medical specialists in Pennsylvania can be paid or voluntarily serve their time without demanding reimbursement. Those who want to make a career will have several different opportunities. The most common employers are typically agencies that respond to numerous types of situations, such as the local fire department and ambulance services.
