 Engineering as a career -2

Engineering is an excellent choice for many. With 1.4 million engineering jobs in the United States alone, it is not surprising that this career area is popular. Let's take a look at several reasons why technology is such a hot and rewarding career.

Hard work

Engineers get the opportunity to combine their creative abilities, math and science with technology to help solve everyday problems. They begin to develop and develop new products, assist in their production, monitoring, maintenance and testing.

In alphabetical order, the main engineering specialties are: aerospace, agricultural, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, electronics, environmental protection, health and safety, industrial, marine, material, mechanical, mining and geological, nuclear and petroleum.

Career Tidbits

The following list includes some information about this career area, corresponding to the US Labor Administration Bureau of Labor Statistics:

- Engineers usually work 40 hours a week, but work may increase in a short time. Daily engineering tasks often include working outside the workspace, including laboratory tests, fieldwork, search and construction sites, monitoring stations, and more.

- Engineers should continue training to stay abreast of the latest research and technological changes. Some companies offer financing for this. Without dwelling on changes, this can mean the difference between maintaining employment and dismissal.

- The Internet has opened doors for remote workers (who can often come on board for less money at the expense of long-distance arrangements), but local engineers are still in demand. Engineers often work onsite with others and their support staff.

- In 2004, engineers with higher degrees (master's and doctoral) earned more. And for engineer engineers, workers earned well in 6-digit ranges.

- Rapid growth in the technology sector means that companies must look for funds to stay ahead of competitors with developing, testing and monitoring products and technologies. Therefore, engineers are in demand and will be for some time.
