Forensic Examination - How does a medical expert make a distinction between injury and exit? -2

Whenever a shooting takes place and the police are called to investigate a dead body as a result of shooting, investigators of the investigative isolators (CSI) will come to the scene processing. The medical examiner will then determine where the bullet was inserted; if possible, where he went out; and what a caliber bullet, or bullet diameter, was used to kill the victim.

In this article I will determine that a record and Through wounds are and what are the attributes that make up the entrance wound.

When a bullet enters a person, it reserves what is called entrance wound However, this bullet will not necessarily leave another hole, called exit wound when the bullet comes out of the body. Often, the bullet remains inside the victim’s body. Evaluating the gunshot wounds, the medical expert looks for wounds to enter and exit and tries to find any bullets still inside the victim. Although the distinction is not always obvious, the medical expert also tries to tell the difference between early and exit wounds, because it can be serious in restoring the crime scene. Knowing the trajectory or path of a bullet can incriminate or justify suspects or help determine which projectile caused a mortal wound.

The characteristics of a bullet wound depend on several factors:

  • The distance between the muzzle or the end of the barrel of the gun, the gun and the victim.
  • Caliber, diameter and speed of a bullet.
  • The angle at which the projectile enters the body.
  • Whether the bullet goes inside the victim or passes through, leaving or leaving the body. Here is the term gunshot wound ,

The medical expert can determine the distance from which one projectile was fired by carefully examining the bullet entry point. The characteristics of these entries are as follows:

  • If the muzzle was two (2) feet or more from the victim, the entrance wound is usually a small hole, followed by collar The abrasive collar is a blue-black bluish effect in the halo surrounding the entrance wound. Some black soot can be left on the skin when the skin literally wipes the bullet clean when it penetrates the entrance wound.
  • If the muzzle was between six (6) inches and two (2) feet from the entry point, the skin could have tattoo or spotted look. This tattooed appearance is the result when tiny powder particles released from the muzzle invade the skin, producing tiny red dots of blood inside the skin in a patchy pattern around the wound.
  • If the muzzle was less than six (6) inches from the victim, then the shot creates a hole, a small spot area, a circumferential charring zone and a bright red color of the wounded tissue.
  • If the muzzle is pressed to the victim when the gun is discharged, hot gases and tiny particles are brought directly into the skin, producing more charring and tearing of the skin with star-shaped or star-shaped pattern.

As a rule, exit wounds are usually larger in size than early wounds, because the bullet cuts or tears soft tissue when it punches itself and goes through the skin. The size and shape of the exit wound depends on the caliber, speed and shape of the bullet. For example, soft lead bullets easily deform when they enter and pass through the body, especially if they hit any bone structures along the way. When this happens, the bullet can become severely deformed, which in turn leads to more extensive tissue damage as a result and many times leads to an irregular, gaping exit wound.

Determining the difference between initial wounds and weekend wounds is not always easy for the medical examiner, especially when the exit wound backed up , Accompanied referrals when clothing or any other material provides support for the wound. The tattered attribute of many exit wounds is caused by a bullet making its way through the skin. However, if the victim's skin is supported by thick clothing, or the victim is against a wall or other structure, the skin is less likely to rupture. Consequently, the exit wound will be less and less torn off. He will have similarity with an early wound.

The next time you watch NCIS or your favorite CSI The telecast, you will be more aware of the terminology used when criminologists investigate firearms.
