Massage therapists: be your best body protector -2

As a repairman, the most important title you have is not a CMT (Certified Massage Therapist) ~ this is “YOBBA” ~ Your Own Body. The best lawyer. Working as a repairer, the very essence of your work is to be a protector of health and well-being for other people. Your hands and your touch literally protect your customers. body. In the process of doing your job, especially if you work in a resort setting, you are bombarded with exotic bugs from around the world for what is usually your busiest and, of course, the most profitable part of your year ~ “High Season” Your boss, who calls you to work through him, can be difficult to fight, but in my experience, the best thing you can do for yourself and your future is to be the best protector of your body and stay in it and drink plenty of fluids. There is a reason that this is ordinary wisdom, because it works.

There is nothing better than the new year. You get a fresh slate, a blank page where you can write your story, which may not have gone as you planned last year. I like the new year, and I’m grateful that we get automatic reuse every twelve months. For most of my life, the end of the year usually meant some type of cold or flu, destroying the holidays, or at least making them more stressful. Fortunately, however, by the time the new year arrives, the annual cold or flu is a memory of faults. For the past eight years, I have been sufficiently sufficient that I have been spared from any kind of plague, annually or otherwise. In this new year, I'm afraid I have never been so lucky.

For two weeks, I struggled with an unfortunate case of the flu that turned into bronchitis, and now it's an annoying, lingering cold. It is amazing to me how much snot the body can make in the process of an infection of the upper respiratory tract ~ I think I'm in the seventh or eighth drawer of tissue. Probably two or three weeks before that, I was fighting “something” trying to land on me. Tired of feeling “just on the edge,” I finally said out loud, "If you are going to get me, then just go!" Naturally, as soon as I saved the permission for the flu to invade my body, he did ~ The next day I know better than to give permission to my brain to make my body sick. I think that the last time I will do it. Next time i say “I AM NOT SICK!”

Since I fought with this superfast, I had a lot of time, I was reminded of a very dark time in my body career when I couldn’t do what was right for my body and allowed myself to give in to pressure from my workplace and my banking accounts. I could not defend my health, and paid for my carelessness.

About eight years ago, I returned home with a terrible mistake that I could have raised during a weekend workshop in Arizona, or that I was exposed before I went. However, under strong pressure to work as soon as I could and longer than I should in my busy resort, this error soon turned into ascending pneumonia, and then terribly and inexplicably turned into a medical nightmare that almost killed me in the process. . I also had to quit my job, which I loved, and lost all my savings, because I could not work full time for almost a year. I will not go into details about my medical nightmare, because it is a long story that needs to be told completely to make the whole process worthwhile. In short, I’ll just say that due to a combination of overwork, stress and careless and arrogant doctors, I miraculously experienced what I wouldn’t want from my worst enemy.

It is important that masseurs and body builders have their own bodies. best health advocates their body. Does he keep his thumbs or arms, elbows, shoulders, back, or just stay in bed when you have a cold or flu, you are the best protector of your body. No one else will care about protecting your body more than you. Too many resorts or massage establishments, unfortunately, care about one and only one - their Bottom line. They will push the therapist as hard as they are allowed ~ psychotherapist ~ produce, often far beyond the body of the therapist.

In my case, not only did I have pressure from my spa to come to work before I had to work and work on too many bodies every day, but I also put pressure on myself. I very happily worked in a situation where I made a lot of money. I mean a lot of the money that all therapists dream of doing ~ and are concerned that if it takes me several days to recover, I will lose too much money this week Therefore, I and my spa contributed to my final demise. Having paid a week to pay for my spa services, I lost much more than a week. I lost almost full time to full time because my body was too weak to handle more than one or two sessions a day ~ several times a week. I also calculated that in combination with my lost savings and lost work, I was so worried this week that it cost me about $ 65,000 this year! What lesson did I learn, right? The best defender of my own body put it in the first place.

It is very difficult for me to write about this experience in my life, because it is a disturbing reminder of how a stupid and short-sighted decision on my part threatened my health and livelihood. But it's important for me to remember and share with others as an example of what not to do when faced with a decision regarding your health and the well-being of your body.

As I mentioned earlier, as a body builder, you are going to come into close contact with the exotic mistakes that were delivered by your massage room to your customers. Sometimes they may simply not be aware of the carriers, but too often they hurt themselves, selfishly investing their comfort over the health of their therapist. In obvious situations, you have the opportunity to wear a protective mask, or if your client has a vitreous eye and fever, you have an obligation for them and for the session to be canceled. I worked many sessions using a protective mask, telling my clients that I could not afford to get what they had. When I suffered from the allergy season, I also wore a mask, although I knew that I did not get infected because I wanted my clients to know that I care about my health and well-being. It can be protected for other people. health, at the same time being your own attorney.

When I was a new therapist, I was just starting out, I was working in a high-class spa hotel at the time of fear from SARS. A group passed from Toronto, and one of my guests had a clear cold and a cough. I panicked because we did not have available masks, and I was afraid to cancel the session, because I did not want to lose my job. For me, it was a very intense session, not to mention the following weeks, when I waited for SARS to strike me dead. This is an example of how a spa puts its sick guest in front of its therapist, and the therapist puts something or something ahead of its own safety. As I mentioned, I was a fairly new therapist and was more worried about my work than about my own body. I did not fully understand my responsibility and duty that I had as a protector to protect myself my own health.

As I continue to struggle with my new mistake of the year, I hope that by sharing my past experiences, I can influence other body workers and how they see their role as defenders of their own bodies. I cannot stress how important it is that you are the best protector of your own body. No one has a greater share in the protection of your health and well-being than you, except, of course, your family. If you are too sick to work, do not do it. If you are injured, do not get injured. Remember that the decisions you make today do not only affect tomorrow. If you are the best and most persistent lawyer of your own body, you can practically guarantee health and longevity in a difficult but rewarding career, where you can also continue to protect your clients. health and wellness.
