When you live at home (with or without a spouse) as a senior, the risk of falling always remains. This does not mean that when a person falls, they hurt themselves. However, in the worst case, when a person falls by himself (without the strength to take himself back), there can be a lot of harm. Dehydration kits that can lead to more serious complications, such as a blow.
The fall itself cannot be preventable, but there are easy steps to reduce the likelihood of a fall: to sit tired, move slowly and carefully around the house, turn on the lights before getting out of bed, install grab bars and level walking areas. However, even with these exceptions, the fall remains a fact of life, and they happen to the young and the old. The only difference is that young people can pick themselves up and have less influence on the actual fall. Older people often go into shock or do not have the strength to stand up. When this happens, they can lie on the ground until they can contact the phone and ask for help, or someone notices them (both can take hours).
The time elapsed since the moment when a person falls and receives help is extremely critical. The longer they wait, the greater the chances of injury and bodily harm, as well as the time spent on recovery (if there are any injuries). There is a simple solution for everyone: medical device alerts. A medical alert includes a base unit and a necklace or bracelet transmitter with an emergency button in the middle. The base unit is connected to the telephone line, and as soon as the transmitter button is pressed, a signal is sent to the base unit, which is then dialed to the central monitoring station. Operators at the central station are trained to assist in the event of an emergency and to assess the situation. They can hear customers in distress through amplified loudspeakers and a microphone with the main unit, and if necessary, send emergency services.
In general, these transmitters are waterproof and can be worn in the shower, where there are many misses and falls. They are lightweight, extremely durable and, as a rule, unobtrusive (they can be worn under clothing).
