Medicare Health Plans - Knowing Your Opportunities Can Save You Money -2

If you are new to Medicare, you can find options for a Medicare health plan, and some of the terms are confusing. When choosing a plan, a little knowledge can prevent you from making costly mistakes. First, you need to know the difference between the Medicare supplement and Medicare Advantage. Many believe that any plan offered by the insurance company is an addition. This is not the case. Advantage plan is not an add-on.

Advantage plan It is offered by a private insurance company as another way to get your Medicare benefits. The insurance company offering the plan has a contract with CMS (Medicare and Medicaid Services Centers) to administer your benefits. Some features of the Advantage plan include:

  • You will have cost sharing through co-payment, co-insurance and deductibles.
  • Plans are often PPO or HMO and have a network of providers.
  • May have a low or in some cases monthly bonus.
  • Will often include coverage for Medicare Part D.
  • May offer benefits beyond the original Medicare, that is, membership in dentistry, vision and gym.

Medicare application , or Medigap's insurance plan, fills in the gaps left by the original Medicare, paying for your share of the cost. This is usually a hospital deductible, a hospital co-op, if required, and 20% of outpatient fees that Medicare does not pay. Some features of the add-on include:

  • These are standardized plans that may require some medical underwriting.
  • Maybe more expensive than older.
  • You pay a monthly premium, which usually exceeds the Advantage plan, but they have lower pocket expenses when providing services.
  • Autonomous part D. You will need to cover the Medicare drug.
  • Benefits outside of original Medicare are not included.

Once you know the difference between the types of Medicare medical plans, you need to ask yourself a few questions. Questions usually revolve around your health and your budget. Other considerations will include the choice of healthcare providers, and whether you are required or can pay cash for additional services not offered by Medicare.

  • Can you afford a monthly bonus for the supplement, even if you don’t use it? If not, you can consider the Advantage plan.
  • Do you have health problems, and you do not have an open registration or a guaranteed period? If this is the case, you may need to consider a Medicare Advantage plan.
  • Are you ready to accept the network provider? If not, you can consider the Medicare application.
  • Can you live with the fact that insurance companies offering Advantage plans can annually change benefits or stop the implementation of the plan? If not, you can check the supplement.

Everyone has different circumstances, and these are just some of the questions you want to answer before choosing your Medicare health plan. After you decide which type of plan is best for you, you will want to compare the plans that are available to get the best plan for your health and money.
