Peanut Allergy: Peanut Allergy Care for Children -2

Being a parent is quite difficult. Being a mother of a child with severe peanut allergies is even more difficult. Most mothers are becoming more protective and constantly fearful for their children. Letting go of them without your direct observation can be difficult.

This is understandable, since 0.6 to 1.3 percent of the US population has peanut allergology. More frightening is the fact that your child may accidentally eat peanuts given by friendly but uninformed friends.

So what to do with the mother? Try to consider the suggestions listed below.

  • Notify your child. Do not underestimate the power of young minds. This applies specifically to children who have already experienced some reactions to eating peanuts. Explain the possibility of experiencing serious reactions. There is no need to explain to your child the mechanism of an allergic attack on peanuts. However, you can do this if the child is older, or if you think your child can understand what you are talking about.

  • Inform adults in your child’s school, kindergarten or play group. They will not know about your child’s allergies unless you tell them. Some schools are already equipped to handle such cases. In fact, several schools have equipped their clinic with emergency medications for the treatment of allergies.

  • Consider buying a bracelet for medicines. This is a simple bracelet associated with the type of allergy your child has. This bracelet will be useful during an anaphylactic attack. It will show everyone who comes to help your child be allergic to peanuts. They will then be able to decide on appropriate actions to help your child.

  • Teach and tell your child how to use the adrenaline pen for injection. If your child accidentally takes a peanut product, then he or she will be able to administer the drug even without your presence. Teaching this to your child will also give them the ability to control their allergies.

  • Read the tags. The FDA regulates product labeling in the United States. This means that manufacturers are required by law to print all the ingredients used in the manufacture of a product. In addition, they must put on their labels any possibility of contamination of peanuts in their product. You may notice phrases like "may contain peanuts" on a food label. Do not buy the product with peanuts or its derivatives.

Taking care of your baby with peanut allergy has become easier these days. Other people know about this allergy and therefore become ready. Nut-free foods are also commercially available. It offers a wider range of products that your child can safely eat or use. Being informed and preventive, you get rid of both your child and your child of any excessive stress.
