 Pseudomembranous Colitis - Ayurvedic Herbal Therapy -2

Pseudodembranous colitis is an inflammatory disease of the colon, which occurs mainly in adults who have received an antibiotic. Common symptoms of this condition include watery diarrhea; abdominal cramps; heat; urgency of bowel movement; nausea; dehydration; and blood, pus, or mucous in the stool. The use of antibiotics, over 65 years of age, a weakened immune system, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, intestinal surgery and cancer chemotherapy are risk factors for this condition.

Ayurvedic treatment of pseudomembranous colitis is aimed at combating diarrhea, reducing inflammation in the intestines and preventing complications such as perforation. Ayurvedic medicines such as Kutai-Gan-Vati, Kutai-Parpati, Praval-Panchamrut, Panchamrut-Parpati, Kutajarishta, Bilva-avaleha and Lagu-Sutchehar Ras are used to treat diarrhea. Herbal medicines that can be used for this purpose include Vishva (Zinziber officinalis), Must (Cyperus rotundus), Bilva (Aegle marmelos), Dadim (Pomegranate), Mayfal (Quercus infectoria), Jaiphal (Myristica fragrans), Lavang (Eugenia caryophyllata), Haridra (Curcuma-Long) and Daruharadra (Berberis aristata).

Patients who do not respond to the aforementioned medications may be given additional medications, such as Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Usheer (Vetiveria zizanioidis), Rakta-Chandan (Pterocarpus santalinus), Pittapapda (Fumaria vaillantii), Shankh-Bhasma and Pittapapda (Fumaria vaillantii), Shankh-Bhasma, and Pittapapda (Fumaria vaillantii), Shankh-Bhasma, and Pittapapda (Fumaria vaillantii); . Medicines such as Kamdudha-Ras and Yashtimaduk (Glycerrhiza glabra) can be used to prevent intestinal perforation. Medicines such as Ras-Parpati, Kutaj-Parpati and Panchamrut-Parpati are effective both for the treatment of diarrhea and for normal bacteria to grow again in the intestines.

Patients with pseudomembranous colitis tend to relapse several times. Medications such as Panchamrut-Parpati and Suvarna-Parpati can be prevented. Medications such as Bilva avaleh and Kutaharishta can also be provided for this purpose on a long-term basis. For this condition it is recommended to use pomegranate juice, cottage cheese and buttermilk. It is important to treat dehydration in order to prevent complications such as blood circulation, toxic megacolon and renal failure.
