Stimulant drugs with a 14-hour duration are limited in use for young children with ADHD -2

Vyvanse is an amazing cure for ADHD for adults, but it has several problems when used for ADHD in children. This relatively new ADHD drug provides continuous stimulator illumination in a very smooth way. Dextroamphetamine conjugates associated with amino acid lysine. Dextroamphetamine is absorbed only when the lysine bond is broken, and this can only happen in the stomach or small intestine. This provides surprisingly smooth delivery of dextroamphetamine to the bloodstream. This delivery system has the added effect that this ADHD drug cannot be abused, as you will not get any effect if you crush it, add it, or snort.

The effect of Vyvanse is very long, between 12-14 hours and there are some doctors who believe that the stimulating effect of Vyvanse is stronger than the stimulating effect of other dextroamphetamines, such as Adderall.

Many young children cope very well with this drug ADHD, except for two problems associated with how long the action. The first problem is that these young children with ADHD often don’t get very hungry for most of the 14 hours, which is the amount of time that the drug usually takes place. During lunch, a child with ADHD can only eat a small amount of lunch. Families who have children with ADHD make all sorts of adjustments to family schedules and procedures to solve problems like this. One family, I know, sets aside a dinner plate for children with ADHD, until it is time for his snack before bed. By the time he is hungry, and then he eats the rest of his dinner.

The second problem is that children with ADHD have days when they do not need a stimulant on board for 14 hours. When a child with ADHD is sleeping in & # 39; and wakes up at 11 am, it is likely that this child will still sleep at his usual sleep time 8-10 hours later. If this child is given Vyvanse however, he will be up until 1 am. It is not possible to shorten the duration of Vyvanse. Giving him half the dose, only half the effect of the stimulant, and not the duration of the action.

I once heard a psychiatrist suggest to the parents of a child with ADHD with this problem that she gave an alarm at 7 am on weekends and woke her child and gave him her Vivance. A ridiculous proposition such as this, why doctors get the terrible reputation they sometimes get. Parents of children with ADHD who do not feel comfortable and do not talk to a doctor cannot be nervous to tell their doctors that this is a bad idea. I don’t know a single, sane parent who is going to wake them to sleep peacefully with an ADHD child at 7 am, when stress is less than a weekend to give them a stimulant.

The best suggestion of this psychiatrist would be to offer this parent a medication with a duration of 8-10 hours, which could be used on the days when the child slept late. I suggest that there are many parents of young children with ADHD who struggle with what to do on days when the drug is 14 hours impractical. Perhaps the solution would be for the drug maker to release a monthly dose for children from Vyvanse, which included two to four days shorter effective dextroamphetamine. These shorter active tablets will be used for random days in the month when the child does not need a 12-14 hour coverage.

A psychiatrist and a doctor who treats children with ADHD and ADD who take Vyvanse should regularly ask parents about what they are doing with regard to their children, on those days when children with ADHD are sleeping late. Children with ADHD and children with ADDITION should not move away from all medications simply because they woke up late and their parents did not need to wake up the tahir, peacefully slumbering children, to give them an ADHD drug.
