Tea to soothe a sore throat -2

This may be the first sign of a cold or something more serious (for example, a staph infection), but the sore throat is always painful and uncomfortable.

Fortunately, you do not need to wait for the sore throat to clear up on its own; There are many natural remedies and over-the-counter medications that can help relieve soreness.

Among natural remedies for sore throat, probably the most commonly used herbal tea. No wonder: a good cup of warm herbal tea can offer immediate soothing relief for soreness in your throat.

Teas have different healing properties that can help soothe sore throats.

Tea can help you fight the disease indirectly, by strengthening your immune system, thanks to the abundance of nutrients it contains: zinc, copper, iron, selenium, folic acid and vitamins A, C, E and B6. Those varieties that are rich in antioxidants, apparently, have stronger anti-inflammatory properties, so their use can reduce swelling of the throat and, consequently, pain. Finally, thanks to its pain-relieving properties, drinking teas can simply numb your throat - so your symptoms become less painful.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, licorice root, eucalyptus, slippery vis, peppermint and marshmallow root can be effective in treating sore throat.

Licorice root has a long-standing use in traditional medicine, as a remedy for sore throat. A strip of licorice mouth has been proven to prevent sore throat. Naturally sweet tasting, it is a common ingredient in herbal teas for sore throats.

Slippery elm is often found in combination with herbal teas for sore throats. The inner bark of the tree contains mucus, a substance that soothes the mucous membranes in the throat and, thus, reduces the feeling of irritation and pain.

Marshmallow root also contains mucus. Marshmallow root tea is recommended by many herbalists as a remedy for sore throat.

Peppermint contains menthol, a substance that acts as a decongestant (it relieves congestion) and expectorant (stimulates secretion).

In addition, citrus fruits such as lemon, lime and orange can help remove mucus, so try adding juice to your tea. Many also recommend adding a spoonful of raw honey or a pinch of ground ginger. It is believed that ginger helps you in the throat, diluting mucus, and honey, as you know, is useful against persistent cough.

Whatever tea you decide to use as an alley in the fight against the disease, always remember to drink it warm, but not too warm. Too hot drinks can irritate your throat even more - so let the tea cool down a little.
