Type 2 diabetes - eye problems in infants of mothers diagnosed with gestational diabetes -2

In February 2018 Journal of Maternal, Fetal and Neonatal Medicine reported on a study from the University of Soroca Medical Center and Ben-Gurion University in the Negev (BSU) in Israel. Scientists have found a connection between mothers who were treated for gestational or pregnancy-related diabetes and eye diseases in children.

The study included 238,622 pregnancies. Of these, 9,601 patients, or 4.0%, were diagnosed with gestational diabetes and were treated only with diet. One percent of women were diagnosed with high blood sugar and treatment with treatment. Children of mothers who received treatment from a medical point of view had more eye diseases than nondiabetic mothers and gestational diabetic mothers who received only a diet.

From the above results, researchers concluded that gestational diabetes treated with medication increased the risk of developing eye problems in infants.

About 9 percent of pregnancies are complicated by a mother who develops diabetes during pregnancy. The hormones produced by the placenta counteract insulin produced in the pancreas of the mother, increasing the amount of sugar available to the fetus. When placental hormones outweigh insulin to such a large extent, the result is gestational diabetes.

Fortunately, most cases can be controlled through diet and exercise. In November 2017 Journal of Diabetes reported an analysis of tests showing the effectiveness of lifestyle changes in the treatment of gestational diabetes. Scientists from the Hospital Clinic de Porto Alegre and several other research institutions in Brazil collected eight studies and analyzed them, as if they were one large study. Pregnant mothers undergoing supervised exercise or physical education have shown improvements in fasting blood sugar than those who receive only regular care.

all involved. Whole grains, nuts, beans, vegetables, and fruits in their natural state help maintain optimal weight and control blood sugar levels.

In January 2018 European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and reproductive biology reported a blood sugar control study in pregnant women from Epsom and St. Louis. Helier University Hospitals in the UK. Women of average weight are most capable of controlling blood sugar levels, following a healthy diet. Having a body mass index (BMI) with a square of less than 24 kg / m is useful for controlling gestational diabetes without medication.
