What is a wart?
A wart (also known as verruca) is usually a small, coarse tumor, usually appearing on the arms and legs, but also in other parts of the body that may resemble a cauliflower or a solid blister. Types of warts

1. Common wart (Verruca vulgaris), raised wart with a rough surface, the most common on the hands and knees;
2. Flat wart (Verruca plana), a small smooth flattened wart, bodily color, which can be found in large numbers; most common on the face, neck, hands, wrists, and knees;
3. Filithiform or digital wart, filiform or finger-like wart, the most common on the face, especially near the eyelids and lips;
4. Plantar wart (verruca, Verruca pedis), severe, sometimes painful lump, often with several black spots in the center; usually found only at pressure points on the soles of the feet;
5. Mosaic wart, a group of densely grouped plantar-type warts, usually on the hands or the soles of the feet;
6. Genital wart (venereal wart, Condyloma acuminatum, Verruca acuminata), a wart that occurs on the genitals.

Warts are caused by a virus called human papillomavirus or HPV. There are about 100 strains of human papillomavirus. Type 1, 2 and 3 causes most common warts. HPV is associated with oral cancer, laryngeal cancer, trachea and lung cancer.
