Western red cedar saunas - "Life Saunas" -2

Western red cedar is an ideal tree for the sauna. Soft red-brown wood, appreciated for its resistance to decomposition, is a particularly popular choice for building outdoor saunas. Many builders also use western red cedar to build decks, gazebos and other structures that must withstand all types of weather and external elements. Western red cedar is also commonly used for cabinets and chests, because the caustic aromatic oils from wood are believed to impede moth larvae that can damage the fabric of their food.

For the natives of the northwestern United States and the southern part of Western Canada, the western red cedar has a long history of use by the Native Americans of the northwestern coast of North America. Some northwestern tribes call themselves "red cedar people" because of their extensive dependence on conifers for basic materials. Western red cedar is called the "tree of life" of the Kakavak-waka tribe and still enjoys great respect from all residents of the northwest coast for its healing and spiritual strength.

According to Erna Günther’s 1945 report, an anthropologist from Washington’s late University who studied the northwestern tribes, “Lummi chews cedar buds and swallows them because of inflamed lungs, while Cowlitz chews them for toothache, and Skokomish boils for rinsing. Skagit boils the ends of the leaves for coughing ... Clallam boils with cedar limbs for tuberculosis medicine, and Quinault makes an infusion of bark and branches for kidney problems (and) boils an infusion of cedar limbs to wash ulcers due to venereal diseases.

In 1994, authors Jim Fire and Andy McKinnon wrote the northwest coast. The native myth that the Western Red Cedar was created "by the Great Spirit ... in honor of a man who always helped others:" When he dies and where he is buried, the cedar tree will grow and be useful to people - roots for baskets, bark for clothes, wood for shelter.

For many years, outdoor as well as indoor red red cedar saunas have been repeatedly advertised to be useful to people who are fortunate enough to own them or use them on a regular basis. Sweat bathing in cedar saunas has been accredited with improved lung function, improved blood circulation, increased immunity to viruses and infections, assistance in skin care and providing relaxation. And the list of potential positive effects of sequential use of the cedar sauna does not end there. Given the many proven health benefits of bathing in the sauna and the strong convictions of Native Americans on the northwestern coast of North America, it may well be called cedar saunas "life saunas."

Western red cedar can be used in the construction of many types of home saunas and sauna sets. Countless backyard gardens, bar saunas, basement saunas, bathroom saunas, sleeping saunas, individual saunas, sauna saunas, traditional Finnish saunas, long infrared infrared saunas, patio saunas, pre-cut saunas and pre-cut saunas For a long time, the houses and properties of demanding sauna fans were decorated with red red cedar.

Interestingly, western red cedar is not technically a true cedar tree; it's a cypress. Cedar refers to trees associated with the genus Cedrus in the family of conifers Pinaceae while western red cedar refers to the species of trees associated with the genus Thuja at Cupressaceae or cypress. However, most sauna manufacturers and sauna dealers sell residential saunas from western red cedar as cedar saunas.
