ADHD Misdiagnosis and How to Avoid Them -2

ADHD Overloaded? The answer is yes and no. Although there are a number of children who need help, not paying attention to their inattentive, hyperactive and impulsive symptoms, these problems do not always indicate ADHD. Many other disorders have the same symptoms, and these conditions cannot be cured by preferred stimulant drugs. However, many doctors diagnose ADHD too quickly and prescribe medication as a treatment when a child may suffer from a completely different disorder. Here are four things that can help you avoid misdiagnosis of ADHD.

Do not diagnose too soon

It is normal for toddlers and small children to be hyperactive and inquisitive. Although this behavior can be difficult to handle sometimes, wait until your child is five or six years old, and see if there are any improvements. If not, ask for help.

Do not think your child has ADHD

As mentioned earlier, there are other disorders that disguise themselves as ADHD. Inattention at school can be caused by a learning disorder, such as dyslexia. Behavioral problems can be caused by food allergies. In other words, do not think that your child has ADHD just because he or she cannot sit back or do homework on time. Make sure you consult your doctor if he or she has excluded other conditions related to ADHD.

Do not look for too many diagnoses.

Some parents have a habit of collecting diagnoses of concomitant or co-existing disorders in ADHD. These comorbid disorders include developmental delays, oppositional defiant disorder, and anxiety disorder. The problem with finding all these different diagnoses in other specialists is that it becomes too difficult to find the right treatment that will be aimed at the root of all these disorders. Adhere to only one diagnosis and one doctor - except, of course, you are not satisfied with the way he or she treats your child.

Find Alternatives to ADHD

An ADHD diagnosis can help you understand that your child has a problem with which he or she needs to recover. But just because you know what a mess is, it does not mean that the treatment is automatically known. Unfortunately, many doctors hastily prescribe medications as a treatment for ADHD, where the real problem lies. There are many possible causes of ADHD that cannot be eliminated with medication, not to mention that stimulant drugs have side effects that may interfere with the recovery of your child.

The best way to overcome ADHD is an individualized treatment program consisting of various treatment methods that aim to treat your child’s symptoms and problems. Such a program is offered by holistic healers and chiropractors who are more interested in eliminating the root of the disorder than suppressing the symptoms with medications.
