Migraine headaches with nausea: a holistic approach to cyclic vomiting syndrome in two adolescents-2

Migraine headaches are especially debilitating, and sometimes include nausea and vomiting. I recently treated two teens with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. One patient had a 16-year-old woman, and a 14-year-old man. Both suffered from frequent migraines, nausea and vomiting -often enough to skip school for a few daysOne patient, missed by weeks, needed a home tutor. After several examinations by ordinary doctors, nothing was found in the GI tract, so they were given migraine drugs and antiemetics (to prevent vomiting). My patient was even convinced that he had surgery and removed the appendix! Both patients continued to suffer from the same headaches, nausea and vomiting. Both patients had problems with insomnia and circadian rhythm. And over time, since the doctors did not find anything, they assumed that my patients were either lying or were psychologically concerned; so they prescribed counseling and powerful anti-depressants to no avail.

So when I met my patients, they were sad. Worse, other experts thought they were “crazy.” The first thing I did was fix their diet. Both patients ate too much sugar and carbohydrate-rich foods. Over time, this led to hormonal imbalances and poor digestion. Society generally recognizes that these products are acceptable standards, but their toxicity is insidious. Sugar, in my opinion, should be considered a cure. This gives you a “sugar maximum” by stimulating the same brain receptors as heroin, and then causes you to smash and burn in “carbohydrate stupor”. To feel better and less irritable again, we crave more. We finally recognize how this long-term addiction leads to diabetes and degenerative brain disorders, but it remains generally accepted and “acceptable” in a standard American diet. The body needs the right building blocks for treatment, and these patients simply did not receive them.

At the same time, I needed to improve the condition of their digestive system so that they actually swallowed the good food that they began to eat. Digestion begins with chewing and enzymes in saliva. It then travels down the esophagus into the stomach, where acidic conditions are required to destroy protein. The right mixture of bile from the gallbladder and other pancreatic enzymes allows you to absorb nutrients in the small intestine. Holistic professionals for many years now know that the intestinal flora is an important symbiotic organism within us. Both patients had a history of using antibiotics that changed their flora. Asking patients about their stools is often overlooked by doctors, especially when the patient has a migraine headache. By providing supplements to these patients, I helped them regain their digestive ability to properly absorb food.

Finally, we need to look at the spinal cord, with the nerves entering and leaving the spine. This is a two-way connection between the brain and the rest of the body. If the vertebrae do not move properly, communication is difficult. The situation becomes the same as that of a general who cannot communicate with his troops. The brain and digestive organs do not interact with each other. This is a potential cause of malabsorption, but can also be the result of a poor diet. If we think about these spinal nerves, such as automatic switches, then if the organ becomes overloaded (due to a poor diet and lack of nutrition), it turns off like a safety valve or a naughty child to prevent further damage. However, it also serves as an obstacle to healing. Thus, the final piece of the puzzle was to solve this problem by setting the structural alignment of both patients.

Multiple elements play a crucial role in recovery time. Changing the diet requires several months of adaptation with minor adjustments along the way. A large role is played by the age of the patient. Younger people respond more quickly to treatment than older people. Patients also vary in degree of compliance. Some, desperate to change their lives after many years of suffering, adapt for the night with great success. Others, fearing New Age medicine and a thirst for ease of pills, need scientific evidence and are much more convincing. They are usually more reluctant and rationalizing, almost sabotaging their own recovery. When both of these patients could return to class every day, attend school dances and have a normal life again, the parents were also released. This is all the evidence I need.
