I have been applied in many places to administrative posts. One thing I can share and be sure that my administrative resume cover letter has evolved over time. I am not sending anything except a well thought out cover letter. I spend some time on them, so I expect to at least call you. That's what I'm doing.
First, I'm sure I know who the interviewer will be. I will contact human resources and ask who it will be. I know that this may be so, so I remain positive and call several times to get information. I know that my resume and letter make a better impression if they are addressed to a person. It shows initiative.
Secondly, I use a language that can be associated with the reader. This is where these manuals are attributed to manuals and programs. I found that they use terminology that may be associated with the reader. In my experience, this was done for this. I have seen an increase in callbacks and interviews. In my last interview I noticed the difference in how the interview goes. I know that this is my letter with an accompanying resume, which gives a more impressive impression.
The last thing I have to include in the cover letter of the administrative resume is the links to my resume. I like to leave my letter on the same page. I just don’t think they sit there and read three or four pages. I probably wouldn't. I know they are looking at this, and because of this, I want to make sure that they catch certain points in my resume. The easiest way I expected was to refer to my letter.
I point out some parts of my resume by writing something like “As you notice my resume, Section V, I participated in the Apollo program” or something like that. I'm just talking here. I think it helped me to read my resume to the reader.
For me, these ideas worked. Turning directly to the interviewer, using the terminology they are familiar with and pointing to a section of my resume, changed the situation. Fortunately, I have a few job offers. Now, if I could just get something closer to home, it would be great! I prefer to drive for an hour to work, especially with the price of gas.
