Medical Special Education in the UK -2

The Competency Achievement Foundation (FACD) document is awarded after the successful completion of the Foundation program to a doctor in the UK. After this program, junior doctors can apply for a specialty or regular training of their choice.

As a rule, these special trainings are 3-8 years. The duration and structure of these trainings depends on the chosen specialty. As a rule, GP trainings last up to 3 years, while other specialties last up to 5-8 years. In addition, the completion of trainings is due to the pace of achievement of competences, time-outs from programs such as Out of Program Research (OOA) or less credit hours.

Types of study programs

Basically there are two types of specialty promotion programs based on a specialty.

  • Continuous training

The developed specialty training programs are applied once at the beginning and are registered for the entire duration of the specialty training.

  • Unrelated training

Unrelated programs consist of basic training, and then are competitive at the highest level. The duration of the main program depends on the chosen specialty. Some core curricula are designed for two years, such as Core Surgical Training, and some are three years as emergency medicine.

Some of the specialties receive a huge number of applications, which are determined by the number of applications received to the available messages. Specialists who receive more applications than existing positions have a high level of competition in choosing.

How do you feel about special education?

You can apply for special training through the Oriel website. This is the British University of Postgraduate Medical, Dental and Public Health. Candidates can register for training, view vacancies, submit applications, interview books, and evaluate and manage offers on Oriel. All applicants must apply for special programs from the new online recruitment system.

You can also find key dates, relevant directories and where to apply for participation in the NHS Specialty Recruitment and GP National Recruitment Office (GPNRO) on the portal.

Applications are evaluated according to specific specifications and major formats, such as grammar and how you answer. You will be invited for an interview if you are on the shortlist.

Large-scale training (BBT)

Large-scale training is a training route available for the academic specialties of 2012–2015, which has now been terminated by HEE managers. Doctors will not be able to access BBT messages in the coming years.

BBT is a two-year program divided into 4 places. These placements are 6 months. These courses include basic medical training (CMT), general practice, psychiatry and pediatrics. Doctors can refer to CT2 and ST2 in their specialty after completing a BBT program.
