If you are a backcountry and enjoy walking away from people, a trip to a ski hut can be a great experience. In the mountains, there is nothing better than skiing, and ending in a large cabin! In the United States, the tenth mountain hut in Colorado runs a system of beautifully built huts. The predatory system is named after the 10th Mountain Division of the US Army, which distinguished itself in the battle during World War II in the mountains of Italy.

The hut system began with 2 huts in 1982, and now in 2013 there are more than 17 huts that people can ski and hike. Since they are so popular, people have to enter the lottery to get a chance to book themselves in one or several huts. After they receive a reservation, they are given a combination of locks so that they can enter the hut when they arrive. Your side may be on its own or it may be on the other side. This is not a problem if several rules of conduct (or etiquette) are followed.

Being in a hut is very similar to community life. You must respect each other’s privacy and allow them space so that they can feel comfortable. This is usually not a problem. Most hut-skiers have done this before. In addition, the backcountry ski community is quite relaxed and easy. Often the two groups that are found in a hut get along well. These two groups can share the duties of collecting fire. In addition, they can help get water from a water pump located inside the hut. This is a big help, as water is always necessary for washing dishes, for drinking and personal hygiene.

A few suggestions for those who have not been to the hut before: the group that arrived at the hut probably first had the advantage of choosing a bunker or room. what
keeps it simple, even if the heap you like may be unavailable. This is happening and should be taken. Cell phones really should be turned off if there is a reception. At the very least, a cell phone call setup should be vibrating. Any cell phone conversations should be conducted outside the main group. Most people go to a hut for peace and quiet. They really don't need to get upset when listening to a cell phone call or a conversation. Noise control is a big problem in some huts if there are many skiers there. Silence usually goes from 10 pm to 6-7 in the morning.

Loud groups can become unpleasant and do try to another group and can create bad feelings in a hut. This is really not what you want. If there is a problem with interference, tell the other group respectfully that you would appreciate it if people left their votes. Most people often do not know that they are loud, as they are so excited to be there. Be friendly, ask respectfully, and people will usually be kindly gracious. If they do not, you cannot do much. Most often, after an hour or so, people still calm down and get tired.

During the night you can fall asleep early, while in the main room there is a large group of people. In any case, ear plugs are mandatory for a trip to the hut. With the exception of the quietest huts, there is always someone who gets up at night to use the bathroom. If this is only one person, that's fine. But if several people move all the time, ear plugs are a blessing.

The next day, a place is welcome on the kitchen counter and allows people to prepare meals. The joint effort to wash dishes spreads goodwill between groups and contributes to a more relaxed atmosphere. When people start to ski, let the other group go first. This, as a rule, is in your interest, since they first dig some kind of snow from the deck and sort of pull the trail out of the door. They will load the bottom of the stairs and make your way out much easier. Plus, they will take it as another gesture of goodwill. As soon as the main group leaves the door, you can sweep the floor or straighten the hut even more, having fewer people in the area. After your departure you will need to collect all the garbage. In addition, the hut must be cleaned to the same condition in which you found it. Always leave a new supply of firewood for the next group.

Skiing in a hut is a terrific experience. If you have never done this, you will have the memory of a lifetime. Just remember that you probably won't be the only group. Only a few manifestations of kindness and thoughtfulness will make your stay much more fun. Hit etiquette comes naturally if you are open and you want another person to have as much fun as you!
