The first thing you need to understand when it comes to any disease, especially the effect on the mind in how depression occurs, is that there is no instant treatment. Yes, there are many different treatments for depression, but just taking pills is not a magic solution. One of the most common misconceptions I have encountered in my life is the belief that an antidepressant will magically make you better.
Well, it would be good if this were true, but unfortunately it is not. First, there are many different drugs on the market for depression, and not everyone responds equally to individual drugs. In addition to the obvious differences in the people themselves, there are also different types of depression, and each of them requires a very specific treatment course. For example, many members of my family, including myself, suffer from bipolar depression.
Bipolar depression has unique problems that appear when patients are first introduced into drug therapy. You can simply assume that since my family and I all suffer from the same illness, that the same medications will work for us. This, however, is not at all the case. In the past there were medicines that my sister took, for example, because of a very bad reaction when I was prescribed. I remember one remedy, in particular, that literally made me disappear.
It was a new drug that did something great for my sister, and so I asked my doctor about it. She said that on the same day she had just received some samples of the drug and was interested in trying several patients. I agreed to see how he did good things for my sister. I can tell you that it was a huge mistake. The doctor forced me to take medicine at the office to make sure that I did not have any allergic reaction.
Fifteen minutes passed without any problems, so the doctor realized that everything was in order to allow me to go home. I live two miles from my doctor’s office, and by the time I fell into my garage, I felt almost drunk. I opened the door, entered my house, took about 10 steps, and at first glance I went face down to the floor. My wife thought I was at the bar and it was so bad. That is why everyone should be under the close supervision of a physician when starting a new medication.
