
No, I do not mean super-powerful external exercises, such as jogging, squash or curtailed muscle building workouts in the gym! We are no longer hunter-gatherers, so there is no need to build excessive muscle tone. Of course, there are exceptions, as in everything! What I am talking about is gentle inner actions that improve breathing and increase blood circulation, which allow the body to heal itself, that it all ever does!
The exercises I am talking about are not new. They exist for a very long time. They first appeared in the medical treatise, which was released by the Yellow Emperor, who is now about three thousand years old. “The classical internal medicine of the yellow emperor” takes the form of a discussion between the Yellow Emperor himself and his six ministers and works up to 24 volumes. In fact, this treatise is the culmination of all the knowledge accumulated by the Chinese regarding medicine, and took shape in about 250BC. This is the first medical textbook known to man. He was translated into English in 1949 at a time when the West was increasingly interested in Chinese media practices, especially acupuncture.
The founder of Taoism, Lao Jie, also mentions these exercises in Tao Te Ching, which appeared much earlier than the work of the Yellow Emperor, so it seems they had even earlier adherents. My thinking is that if something like the realization of one’s path to health has long existed, it must have value, otherwise it would have been long forgotten. He called,
“Revitalizing exercises” - “the best types of therapy”. Today we have found a new life in Do-In clubs in Japan, where participants meet weekly or more often to work together and overcome the health problems they face. In China, the exercises are called "Chi-Kung", which translate assuming that, yes, you have this, "breathing and vigorous exercises!
More recently, a Chinese doctor, Pao Lin, published a study by him in a Gauolin Research Report using 2,873 suspected cancer patients. He used Ki-kun exercises to treat these patients. Over the six-month period, 12% of cancer patients showed complete remission of their symptoms, while a whopping 47% showed a significant improvement. The remaining 41% did not seem to change due to their “revitalizing exercises.” Nevertheless, I think that the level of improvement of 59% is very significant, especially if it does not resort to drugs and surgical operations.
Coming a little closer to home in 1976, American doctor Cecilia Rosenfeld experimented with exercises. They were taught to her by a California practitioner and author of The Complete Self-Healing System by Dr. Stephen Smen, who studied both Western and Chinese medicine. As a result of her research, she experienced an almost immediate benefit from the exercises she learned from Dr. Chang. In fact, she was so impressed that she decided to “appoint” them to her patients. After a week, only 80% showed an overall improvement in health. This prompted her to hire eight nurses, who in turn participated in the “Revitalizing Exercises.” Patient groups were assigned to individual nurses. Again, the results were stunning, and most of them showed a marked improvement without any side effects or pain. The nurses themselves felt extremely endowed, spending their days demonstrating this energy-based path to healing.
One nurse described her normal duties as follows: “After eight hours of work on our feet, we felt ready to die. But now we started using the exercises a hundred times a day, we feel ready to jump over the roof at the end of the day! "
