Herpes are caused by a virus known as Herpes Simplex (HSV1). This simplex affects the region of the oral cavity: around and in the mouth, on the tongue and nose. Outbreaks of this virus occur periodically and are usually bought during stress, excessive exposure to the sun, cold and fever.
As a rule, the first sign of a flare is skin irritation or a rash. The area then blisters, often seeping in clear liquid, then becomes hard. Cold ulcers are easily transmitted. Here are some simple ways to avoid infection:
- Do not kiss a person with an active lesion.
- Do not separate razors
- Do not separate towels.
- Do not divide cups or glasses.
It is important to treat this condition with caution, as it can be transmitted to the eyes and genitals. When this happens, these conditions are much more difficult to treat and can have long-term effects.
There are many ways to treat these lesions. Ointments can be applied directly to the affected area. There are also antiviral drugs that are taken domestically, such as Zovirax or Valt
One of the most popular over-the-counter herpes treatments is Abreva (10% Ducosanol). Zovirax is a prescription ointment that helps prevent flares. Both of these creams should be applied at the first sign of an outbreak.
There are various home remedies for reducing the duration of a cold outbreak. Here are a few:
- baking soda paste
- green tea leaked with ground ginger
- zinc paste
There are also natural remedies, such as:
- TRILEX
- H-away
- H prophylaxis
Laser treatment:
The most effective way to treat herpes virus is to use a diode laser. Laser light kills the virus, and the lesion disappears within a day or two. As the laser destroys the cause, there will never be another flash in this particular area. A diode laser promotes healing and reduces the likelihood of scarring.
Herpes Simplex should not be confused with Herpes Zoster, commonly called Shingles or Zona. Although they belong to the same subvirus family, the initial infection is derived from the Varicella Zoster virus (chicken pox). Varicella becomes hidden in the bodies of nerve cells and often repeats many decades later as a painful and debilitating condition.
If you suffer from discomfort from this disease, consultation with your dental professional will allow you to find available options and help reduce the number and duration of these outbreaks.
