The most common symptom of acid reflux is heartburn. Heartburn does not mean that you have reflux, it can also be caused by other ailments, including severe infection of the Candida yeast or overgrowth. Candida infection can lead to a wide range of problems, including thrush, depression, skin irritation, heartburn and hemorrhoids.
It is possible to have acid reflux that does not suffer from heartburn, there are a number of other atypical symptoms that may occur.
Acid Reflux, as a rule, occurs after a meal, it may take one or two hours for symptoms to appear depending on what you eat, how much you eat and what you do after a meal. If you lie down, bend over, or take part in physical exertion, the symptoms of reflux will worsen.
If you suffer from symptoms of acid reflux more than twice a week, you may have GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), and you should seek medical attention. GERD is caused by damage to the esophagus when the contents of the stomach are in contact with it for extended periods of time.
Heartburn
Heartburn is characterized by a burning or restless sensation behind the breast, the sensation can also spread to the throat and neck. Burning is due to the fact that the contents of the stomach moves up the esophagus (the tube between you and the throat and stomach) and into the throat.
About 75% of patients suffering from reflux will experience heartburn at night.
Heartburn has nothing to do with the heart.
Difficulty swallowing
When swallowing, a burning sensation or pain can be felt in the throat, and the pain can be severe if food is swallowed. It may also be accompanied by the feeling of a piece of food being fed into the throat or chest. This is caused by damage to the membrane that drains the throat, and the esophagus becomes damaged due to excessive exposure to gastric acid.
Upset stomach or indigestion
About 50% of patients with reflux suffer from an upset stomach, this can be characterized by pain and distress in the upper abdomen, nausea after eating, excessive belching and a feeling of a full stomach much earlier than expected.
regurgitation
Here the contents of the stomach (food, stomach acid and enzymes) are returned to the pharynx (very back wall of the mouth), and sometimes even to the mouth. This is often accompanied by a bitter or sour taste in the mouth.
Asthmatic symptoms
It is characterized by wheezing, coughing and sneezing. Breathing is naturally difficult. When you erupt, acid or acid smoke can be in your lungs, it causes asthma symptoms, especially with people with asthma.
Hoarseness or sharpness of voice
Because of the pressure on the vocal cord, your voice may sound harsh, and you may run into problems when you speak, and often need to clear your throat. The wall of the throat can also become hardened if it is regularly exposed to stomach acid.
Yellow liquid or spots on you Pillow
If you have reflux at night, you can wake up to find a yellow liquid or spots on the pillow; the liquid is usually a gastric acid.
Many of these symptoms are present only in normal diseases, which most of us tend to have at one time. Acid Reflux becomes evident when there are enough symptoms for your doctor to diagnose. Your doctor may conduct tests to confirm their diagnosis.
There are natural remedies for acid reflux, simple changes in your diet are often enough to completely stop all symptoms of acid reflux.
Please read carefully the short and long term side effects of taking antacids and other Acid Reflux medications, many of which can actually worsen your condition. The FDA has issued a safety warning on the long-term use of proton pump inhibitors; extended use can lead to osteoporosis and an increased risk of fractures.
