Health care professionals who work with physiotherapists in providing physical therapy are called physical therapy assistants. Education, training and certification
Physical therapy assistants in most states must have an Associate degree from an accredited CAPTE program (Commission for Accreditation in Physical Education). These are typically two parts that are academic courses and clinical experience. Courses such as English, physiology, anatomy and psychology are covered in the first part, and the second part is more about the practical experience that takes place in therapeutic centers. Currently there are 280 accredited candidate degree programs available to Body Therapy Assistants. In addition to coursework, clinical training provided to health professionals helps them gain practical experience in their field. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), practical experience and first aid are included in the training. Most states require a licensed therapist assistant before they can practice. They must also first go through National Physical Therapy (NPTE), issued by the Federation of State Councils of P. Therapy after completing a 2-year affiliate program. They can then apply for a license in the state in which they would like to work, and the license often needs to be renewed through continuing education courses.

In 2010, there were 67,400 jobs in this profession, and in 2020 an increase of 46% is expected. More than 50% of PT assistants work in outpatient medical institutions and 28% work in hospitals. You will also find them in nursing homes and residential care facilities.
