10 ways to respect diversity in the workplace -2

The world is a colorful variety, as well as our jobs. Diversity is an economic and legal priority in business. This increases the total profit, the transition begins with innovation and prevents legal risks from doing business. Managers, managers and employees at all levels of the company must find ways to embrace and respect diversity in their departments and organizations as a whole. Here are ten ways to get started.

  1. We all have prejudices. This is a natural result of our life experience. Spend a little time to write down what prejudices you have and how you cannot allow these prejudices to affect how you behave at work.
  2. Get to know someone other than you. Take a real interest in someone with a different background than your own. Make sure your conversations find common ground in an area that does not offend cultural feelings.
  3. Invite input from other people with different experiences. This not only shows respect, but also has a good business attitude to different opinions.
  4. Combine different groups for innovation. Inviting as many backgrounds and cultures as possible will increase the pace and creativity associated with innovation. Companies that do not change and are not introduced will die, and diversity can become the company's most valuable resource in this area.
  5. Respect religious holidays. Most companies respect Christian holidays, but the workplace is much more than just Christian. All important religious holidays should be respected for employees of that particular religion.
  6. Find someone with a different background that shares with you the same goal of the company and develops a strategy with them.
  7. Learn about everyone in your departments skills, knowledge and experience. This will help you respect what they bring to the workplace.
  8. Invite someone with a varied background for lunch or change your table every day for lunch in the common room so you can sit with new people.
  9. Avoid language that humiliates a certain group of people. For example, avoid inviting female girls and avoiding jokes that have religious or cultural characteristics.
  10. When hiring or promoting people, this is done only on the basis of facts. Skills, abilities, knowledge and results should be the only factors involved in your decisions. Do not allow distortions or stereotypes to influence the process.

Declare diversity in the workplace and you are on your way to a more complete and productive organization. The world is a wonderful mosaic of differences, and it should be in the workplace too. Respecting your colleagues and employees is paramount to exploiting valuable diversity in your organization.
