How to start a medical transport company Part II -2

Medical transport is not limited to ambulances and medics. In many cases, ambulances are also used to meet growing non-emergency transport needs (NEMT).

Ambulance, as a rule, is considered only for emergency transport, often credited for providing non-emergency transportation in areas where there is no adequate medical care or areas where there is a lack of understanding of convenience and savings obligations using ambulances.

Unfortunately, many employees, institutions and organizations do not understand the versatility and cost savings that exist when using ambulances against using ambulance. As a rule, an NEMT performed by an ambulance is, on average, 70–90 percent cheaper and more economical than an ambulance that performs the same transportation with an equal distance and dynamics.

The reason for such a gross discrepancy in cost can be explained by the simple savings in overhead costs. The cost of the car, insurance, training and equipment for ambulance is much more than the cost of the ambulance. In addition, the ambulance is always staffed with several certified EMTs; further growth in labor costs and training. Conversely, an ambulance can be completed with one licensed driver, trained only in state and local requirements for transportation. But again, this is only possible for NEMT.

In states, counties, institutions, and areas where more and more outpatients are designed to meet the emergency transport infrastructure needs of older people and people with disabilities, there has been a significant reduction in financial costs for insurance companies, Medicaid and social services, brokers, hospitals, non-profit organizations, etc. p. At a time when budgetary problems are subjected to critical testing, such savings when using more ambulances for non-emergency transport needs are not only It is intelligent and practical, but it is also crucial. Instead of reimbursing ambulance services for thousands of dollars for a single transport that is not associated with an emergency, the cost of private clients and facilities for comparable transport can be legally reduced to hundreds or so of dollars!

Needless to say, moving ahead with ever-growing medical and transportation needs, combined with changes in health care practices and policies, the need for practical and cost-effective solutions that are not related to emergency transportation will become more interesting. The need for safe and adequate services will increase with constant attention to the total cost of delivering such services, therefore, the growing possibility of providing services not related to an emergency.
