How to make a national tour of radio talk from home
Of all the media, radio talk is the most dynamic, interactive, and exciting way to reach your audience. If your project or topic is informative, a controversial or sensational (or all three) statement of an interview with radio stations is probably the easiest form of advertising. There are many good media catalogs on the market, but the big dad of them is the Bacon media directory, which lists all the newspapers, radio and television stations in the US by state, city, telephone letters and provides a wide range of useful data, such as names manufacturers, display formats, etc. While expensive (over $ 250), this directory is an indispensable tool for media professionals. You can check your public library and see if you have one or order it. Thus, you can copy the markets you are interested in, focused on your media communications.
Getting an interview for an interview (called a concert) is simple, and all you need is a way to get your press release to a specific producer (mail, fax, email), follow up phone, relaxed atmosphere to make and receive calls and follow interviews for talk shows from your home. I have a lot of experience in radio talk, and I assure you that there is no easier way to promote your project to the general public. And, like everything else, the more you spend time, set up concerts and do talk shows, the easier it is to set them up and do it, it is based on yourself. The pleasant part is that in 90% of cases the radio station will call you at your home or office, all you have to do is punctuality available for the call and the professional.
The following are tips from our book, How to Get Free Advertising, and will provide you with a lot of information to improve your talk show experience and help you succeed on the radio.
Cool Tips and Tricks
In fact, you can make a national talk show tour from your home, easier than you think! All you have to do is contact the radio stations in a talk format, talk to the relevant producer (s) of the show (s) that will process your topic, send (or fax) them a press release and make an appointment for conducting a telephone interview. This is a great way to get thousands of dollars for airtime with minimal cost from the comfort of your home! Often the radio station will call you when it will be ShowTime!
- Know your market ... call the radio stations and see what materials the manufacturer / host wants to see from you, besides your press release, if any.
- Send the press release in a simple envelope with the manufacturer's name written in ink pen. It personalizes the press release and helps ensure its reading.
- Are press releases sent in an envelope straight? Use the outside of the envelope to write a key sentence or thought. This will help to catch the eye. We write "Smart people read" Smart Books "on the outside of our press envelopes.
- Give producers and talk show hosts the opportunity to respond to your press release by providing a toll-free number they can contact you to schedule a show.
- Add something visual that will catch their attention. Even a business card or Rolodex card with your name, phone number, address and an indication of your specialty.
- Follow your press release by calling them to confirm that they received it and schedule an appointment for a talk show.
- Use a monthly calendar from 8 to 11 "to record meetings on talk shows. When registering an appointment, write the name of the producer / host and the call letters of the station in the time interval.
- Always send a short thank-you letter to the producer / host so you can talk to your audience. Use your monthly calendar and tick the media when sending a thank you letter. It has many advantages, including a media review and monitoring system, showing you where you spoke and what you need to thank at a glance.
- Try to make up 1-2 talk shows per day. At least one, two is better.
1. Make sure you have a good telephone line. If possible, press the mute button on the phone to turn off the cough. (Called cough button).
2. Make sure you have a relaxed atmosphere for a talk show.
3. Do not be distracted and do not disturb yourself when conducting a talk show. Put a “Do Not Disturb Broadcast” sign in your home or office door.
4. For obvious reasons, put a glass of water nearby during a talk show.
5. Record your conversational moments before the talk show. Develop these conversation points so that they can be used again and again. The more you do a radio talk show, the easier they get and the better you get. Expand your talk points to answer common questions you get on the radio.
6. Try to limit your talk points to three (3) main points in the plan. If you are talking about a book, staple the book for easy access during execution.
7. You have a special “toll-free” phone number for people (and media) to contact you to learn more about what you can or have answered. If you are an author, specialist or consultant, the announcement of this information line may become public.
8. Attract listeners, hold a contest or quiz. If you give out important information, tell them to write something, you will give out tips for saving money (or something else). Thus, when you mention your toll-free number, they have paper and pen in hand, ready to write your number down.
9. If you are asked to ask a question that you have not answered, do not panic. Tell the audience that you do not have an answer professionally, but you will dig into it and call the station back when you have an answer. This may give you another chance to go on the air.
10. Another method is to call the caller by phone to call your toll-free number and leave your phone number with your staff so that you can return to them with an answer, enter your number. This allows you to get your free number on the air twice. Once during the show and once before leaving.
11. Never accept the answer to a question. You either know or do not know. If you answer an interactive talk show, you can bet your last dollar when the listener catches you and calls the radio station. Nothing is more embarrassing or destroying your credibility faster than giving answers to garbage.
12. If you go out on a talk show, pay attention to him, but do not let him ruin your enthusiasm. Practice makes perfect.
- Nothing replaces your knowledge of your topic and the problems associated with your topic. When you're on the radio, it's very comparable to sitting on a 50-yard super-bowl line with 50,000 people in the stands, each of whom can ask you any question they want about your subject and related issues. The good news is that people in the audience do not have as much time as you do, contemplating the problems associated with your topic. This allows you to think deeply about your topic before questions.
- The best way to cover your bases is to ask yourself about the 5WH formula: Who, what, where, when, why and how.
- Having answers to the 5WH formula will go a long way to prepare you for all interviews in the media to conduct interviews with newspaper editors or interviews on radio and television.
To your success!
