Unacceptable drugs ADHD leads to illicit drug use: a study -2

Non-drug use of prescription drugs is a complex issue and is regarded as an epidemic in the United States. He is responsible for increasing the number of visits to the emergency room and death from reactions and overdoses. Experts say that the prevalence of prescription drug abuse is similar among men and women.

Many people believe that prescription drugs are safer than regular drugs and will not have undesirable effects. However, its abuse causes a compulsive search for drugs and leads to use that is harmful to the addict and the people around him. Such drugs are dangerous and have exposed users to various risks associated with physical and mental health.

What does Ameritox show?

Ameritox study in 2016, which helps in the control of drugs designed to combat the prescription drug abuse epidemic, showed that one out of three patients who were treated for attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome (ADHD) found no traces prescribed stimulants.

According to data collected from more than 4,000 patients from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, when patients with ADHD do not adhere to prescription stimulants for treatment, this leads to an increase in illicit drug use and non-medical use of opioids and benzodiazepines. More than 20% of patients who did not have evidence of the use of the prescribed tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) stimulant were detected in their blood.

Ameritox is a leader in pain treatment solutions. Solutions help clinicians coordinate and optimize care for patients with chronic pain. Members of the Ameritox medical team also reported that patients who did not have any indications of prescribed stimulants (about four out of 10 cases) had positive results for an unappointed opioid, not prescribed benzodiazepine, THC and / or cocaine.

Significantly high non-compliance rates were observed in patients who received ADHD in all age groups. In contrast, patients over the age of 60 showed the lowest rates of potential non-compliance, while 24.4% of patients reported a negative value for the prescribed drug. Those who were between the ages of 20 and 29 showed the highest rates of potential non-compliance, with more than 40% of the samples showing a negative result for their prescribed stimulant.

“Even in the best scenarios, the likelihood of diversion or illicit drug use is alarming.” The misuse, abuse and leakage of drugs for ADHD cannot often be flushed away when these results indicate that even when the prescribed drug ADHD is detected, there is almost every fourth chance that the sample will also test positive results for potentially hazardous substances, ”the Doctor says Tom Smith, Chief Medical Officer of Ameritox.
